The final lecture in Historic Geneva’s spring program series will be an illustrated presentation on Historic Preservation in America. Historic Geneva curator John Marks will look at the evolution of historic preservation from the 19th century to today, using many Geneva examples. He will examine the purpose of historic preservation: Why should we preserve buildings and landscapes? How has preservation changed over time? What’s the difference between preservation, restoration, and rehabilitation?
The program series will be held at the Geneva History Museum at 543 South Main Street in Geneva and is open to the public. There is a suggested donation of $5 to support our programming.
2026 marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Historic Geneva is commemorating the anniversary with exhibits, programs, and blog articles. “What Should We Save? Historic Preservation in America” is part of the 250th commemoration.
