This evening’s concert features an exciting blend of repertoire for percussion ensemble and steel band, including Akira Nishimura’s Balinese Gamelan-inspired “Legong” and newer pieces like electronic music producer Jlin’s piece “Embryo” and Sofia Frohna’s “Daphne in Wood.” A “warm grid” of clay pot rhythms mingle with choral-like marimba chords on Caroline Shaw’s “Taxidermy,” while bass drums on either side of the stage create a surround-sound experience in Gérard Grisey’s space-inspired duo “Stèle.”
