Pack a picnic and enjoy Opera Under the Stars! Rochester Summer Opera presents “Opera’s Greatest Hits” performed with the RSO orchestra!
Rochester Summer Opera was founded in 2021 during the Covid-19 pandemic to create free experiential learning opportunities for Eastman Voice & Opera students. In the past two summers, we have provided 40 students with performance opportunities, as well as accomplished our secondary goal of providing over 700 people in the Rochester community with a free, family-friendly opera experience through our productions of Die Fledermaus at the Memorial Art Gallery and The Pirates of Penzance at The Robach Community Center beach.
Having spoken to many opera lovers in Rochester, many have pointed out how much they miss the “Opera Under the Stars” performances that used to occur in the Highland Bowl. With the financial support of the County of Monroe, they provided 23 years of performances for free to Rochester citizens. Over the 23 years, just under 250,000 people attended these performances. I am seeking to recreate this experience and create a free opportunity to experience the power of opera. With the help of the Highland Park Conservancy and WXXI, we look forward to presenting the Rochester Community with a beautiful opportunity to bring a picnic and enjoy Opera’s Greatest Hits!
