“we’re crossing an era of darkness, carrying a small light.
if your heart goes numb or bitter, the light is lost. what will you do?”
– the Mahābhārata
welcome to this inter-art, inter-denominational composition/offering connecting and juxtaposing visual, audio, and energetic content in both intentional and chance ways.
please imagine that you see in front of you:
3 clotheslines crossing the space and hung with white standard-size pillowcases written/painted/printed/hand-drawn on front and back with images, poems, quotes, homages, slogans, and prayers, referencing prayer flags, protest posters, disability, fortune cookies.
hear in the main gallery recorded, personal/political/mystical texts.
hear in the adjoining long, skinny room, an ambient, meditative vibration. This is the “Walking for Peace’ space and includes recorded gentle instructions for walking meditation. Monks from neighboring Namgyal Monastery (the North American Seat of the Personal Monastery of His Holiness the Dalai Lama)
have been invited to Walk for Peace with us.
the audio tracks will be looped. guests/audience can enter the gallery at any time for as long or short as they wish and experience both fresh and repeated content in unanticipated dialogue with each other.
in a small set-off area there is an open, ongoing zoom connection with me in bed in my home/studio for anyone who wishes to say ‘hello’ or ask a question.
the imagery, text, and audio are intended to evoke and provoke associations and connections between past and present trauma in our psyches, our homes, communities, cities, states, in our wounded nation, and to simultaneously offer peaceful, artful soulful content.
important to me is that this performative installation invites a felt-sense of self-reflection and awareness of the personal body, the body politic, body of earth, no body.
