Improve Onondaga Lake’s Ecosystem and Learn about the Birds and Newly Restored Habitats

Join the Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps for a Habitat Enhancement Event on Saturday, November 9 from 12 to 2 p.m. Participants will pick up debris along the Onondaga Lake shoreline and monitor bird nest boxes while learning from National Audubon Society, Onondaga Audubon and Parsons staff about birds, other wildlife, and the importance of healthy habitats in the Onondaga Lake watershed. Participants should wear shoes or boots, long pants and sleeves, and bring work gloves. Plastic bags will be provided. This free event will take place rain or shine and is sponsored by National Grid, Honeywell and Parsons.

Volunteers will meet at Honeywell’s Onondaga Lake Visitors Center, 280 Restoration Way, Syracuse, NY 13209.

“Onondaga Lake is a critically important bird area,” said Chris Lajewski, director of the Onondaga Lake Conservation Corps. “During the winter months, dozens of Bald Eagles and thousands of waterfowl and songbirds will flock to the lake and it’s wetlands for food, water and shelter. The Habitat Enhancement Event is a great opportunity for the Central New York community to enhance the lake’s 90-acres of restored habitat and reduce threats to the birds and other wildlife.”
