Rochester Contemporary Art Center’s Executive Director Bleu Cease announced an updated message regarding its iconic, upcoming 6×6 fundraising exhibit. “We may have to make some changes, but 6×6 is proceeding,” he said. “We’re hoping people will use 6×6 as a fun, creative, and positive activity together (but separately) during this difficult time. The Coronavirus health crisis is dramatically impacting all aspects of daily life. Hopefully, 6×6 will give people a creative outlet while they are at home.”
As RoCo is currently closed due to COVID-19, all entries should be sent via the United States Post Office to RoCo at 137 East Avenue, Rochester, NY 14604. The art center receives mail even when closed. Entries should be postmarked by April 10, accompanied by a short entry form that can be downloaded here: roco6x6.org/6x6x2020_entryform.pdf.
RoCo is thrilled with the success of the recent community “6×6 Make Art Day” on March 6, meeting its audacious goal of 1,000 artworks. Cease notes that RoCo was able to jumpstart this year’s 6×6 entries thanks to the more than 45 community venues hosting a public “Make Art Day,” including private businesses who used it as a team-building activity, and many, many families.
Complete 6×6 information is available at rochestercontemporary.org. There is no fee to enter.
Now in its 13th year, RoCo’s iconic 6×6 exhibition brings together thousands of original artworks, made and donated by celebrities, international and local artists, designers, youth and community individuals. Each artist may enter up to three artworks of any medium (2D or 3D) except glitter. Artworks must be six inches square and signed only on the back, to be exhibited anonymously. All artworks will be exhibited and for sale to the public for $20 each to benefit RoCo. Artists’ names are revealed to the buyer upon purchase, and all artworks remain on display throughout the exhibition, June 6 – July 12, 2020.
