TOAST TO CNY: LOCAL EVENT TO FEATURE 20 NYS WINERIES AND A SILENT AUCTION

01/18/2019

The Cornell Alumni Association of CNY (CAACNY) will hold its 21st annual Toast to CNY scholarship wine tasting and silent auction on Friday, January 25, 2019 from 6:00–9:00 p.m. at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. The event is open to the public and is a great way to support the Buy Local movement with an opportunity to sample local wines and bid on items donated by prominent CNY businesses.

The event will feature wines to sample from a record 20 participating wineries from across New York State, as well as a carving station, hors d’oeuvres, chocolate fountain, dessert table, and assorted teas and coffees. Participating wineries include: Anyela’s, Buttonwood Grove, Chateau Lafayette Reneau, Damiani Wine Cellars, Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Cellars, Fulkerson, Glenora, Goose Watch, Hazlitt 1852, Hosmer, Knapp, Lakewood, Lamoreaux Landing, Merritt Estate, Penguin Bay, Sheldrake Point, Silver Thread, Standing Stone, Treleaven, and Hermann J. Wiemer.

The silent auction will include gift certificates and other items from Central New York, such as hotels, restaurants, wineries, golf courses, show venues, and other businesses. A listing of silent auction items can be viewed online as well. Supporting the local economy has been a continuing trend in our region, and the wineries who participate are no stranger to that mantra.

“There are many bright things on the horizon for the Finger Lakes wine region,” says Meaghan Frank, general manager of Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Cellars. “This movement was spurred by the Eat Local, Drink Local where our wines are considered “local” by many eastern states and nearby cities.”

Proceeds benefit four scholarship funds through CAACNY. The most recent endowment is named as the “Bob Bitz Class of ’52 Scholarship Fund” in honor of Mr. Bitz, founder of Plainville Turkey Farms, for his role as an active Cornell alumnus, Trustee Emeritus, and other Cornell activities. Last year’s event raised over $20,000. Scholarships assist area CNY students in attending Cornell University.

Advance sale tickets can be purchased for $40 online at HERE or for $45 at the door. Credit card payments will be accepted for ticket sales and silent auction items the night of the event.
