Stop by the gallery to meet Brenda Cretney and admire her watercolors on Friday, May 5 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Brenda Cretney’s fascination with animals began at her grandparents’ farm in Hamlin when she was a young girl. She was especially in awe of their massive Percheron draft horses. Eventually she had her own horse – Big Bills – a friendly quarter horse with a % brand on his backside. For 20 years they rode trails all over New York State.
Brenda now lives in Brockport where she went to college and raised three children. She also taught elementary school at Kendall Central School for 30 years. Those years were full of family, renovating an old house and teaching.
Painting in watercolor appealed to Brenda because of the vibrant colors. Upon retiring, she took up the medium and attended classes at the Memorial Art Gallery in Rochester and other artist workshops. Painting animals is her passion. “My proudest accomplishment is when I paint an animal and it looks back at me from off the paper with a glimpse of its personality,” states Brenda.
Brenda has competed in juried art shows and earned many awards, including a few that qualified for Best of Show. She has membership in five art clubs: Rochester Art Club, Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society, Central New York Watercolor Society, Baltimore Watercolor Society and the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society.
Visit the gallery to meet Brenda and view her work on Friday, May 5, from 5 to 8 p.m.
