“This painting of the boathouse was created using only a painting knife. I’ve long been an admirer of the Impressionists and wanted to express a feeling of morning light in the sky and on the water,” says Barbara.
During her studies for a degree in art therapy, Barbara took a course called “Psychology of Creativity,” which led her towards painting seriously. An empty nest offered Barbara the opportunity to begin painting and exploring the exotic light of the Finger Lakes. This light changes scenes for dramatic realism in painting.
“All of my life has been spent in the Finger Lakes area and I truly appreciate the beauty of the changing seasons as well as the waterways and hills, flora and fauna,” states Barbara. “In my work I like to express a love for nature and the effects of changing light. Color and light are my concerns, and using both oil and pastel, I strive to paint my impressions and feelings,”
