Dec. 26 through Jan. 30
For parents wondering how they’ll keep their kids occupied for the long holiday break, the Rochester Museum & Science Center (RMSC) has the answer. Families are invited to visit the Science Museum & Strasenburgh Planetarium for winter-themed activities and special presenters during the RMSC’s Snowed In: Winter Break Science Days from December 26 to January 5, 11-3pm daily.
Discover the wonders of winter with hands-on activities and demonstrations by RMSC staff and meet & greet with local scientists and organizations to explore the wonders of science and technology happening across our community. Visitors will be able to try their hand at programming our Snozo-bots, engineering snow forts, launching snowball catapults and more. Outside community presenters* sharing their science and time with us this year include:
- Astral Solar
- American Society of Civil Engineers
- Astronomy Section Rochester Academy of Science (ASRAS)
- Rochester Amateur Radio Association (RARA)
- University of Rochester’s Brain Awareness Campaign
- Wonders of Vacuum Science & Tech
In addition to our guest presenters, daily workshops will include:
- Snow Daze: Construct a catapult and send snowballs soaring, learn why snowflakes are a true symmetrical winter wonder, and create an ice-skating program for our Snozo-bots
- Snow City: Take the Snozo-bot snowplow challenge to see if you can program a robot to clear the most snow from the roads in the least amount of time, construct an igloo, show off your architectural skills by creating your own snow fort.
Visitors will also be able to explore, the RMSC’s new featured exhibit, SciFiTech, exploring the how science fiction has influenced modern technology. With interactive displays and exhibits around every corner, paired with references to classic sci-fi novels and films and the technology they predicted, this exhibit will be fun for the whole family.
