On Saturday, September 18, Main Street Arts will host their very first plein air painting event. What does plein air mean? It’s the act of making a painting outdoors as opposed to painting in a studio. Artists will be painting in and around the historic and picturesque village of Clifton Springs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A ticketed preview event will be held at 2p.m. and then a free public exhibition from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., directly following the ticketed preview.
The artists will be able to paint anywhere within the 14432 zip code. Our hope is that through this event, we’ll be able to highlight the unique beauty of our quaint village while also showcasing the work of local artists.
—Bradley Butler, executive director and curator
The ticketed event allows attendees to be among the first to see—and purchase!—the artwork made by the participating artists. A $10 ticket will get you a glass of sparkling wine or soft drink, and cookies from Warfield’s Restaurant and Bakery. The event is sponsored by Community Bank N.A. and includes a total of $500 in cash prizes for a best in show and two juror’s choice awards. Artwork will also be available for purchase on the Main Street Arts website for the duration of the public exhibition.
For more information, and to purchase tickets for the preview event, visit www.MainStreetArtsCS.org or call (315) 462-0210. Painting will occur rain or shine but a rain location for the reception and exhibition will be at Main Street Arts, located at 20 West Main Street, Clifton Springs.
