Best of Show announced at Dansville ArtWorks’ Juried Photography Exhibit
Dansville ArtWorks hosted the opening reception of its third annual Juried Photography Exhibit on Friday, February 2, at its community arts center, 153 Main Street, Dansville.
Juror Christine Berry of Berry Campbell Gallery, Manhattan, New York, recognized three pieces as Best of Show from the 37 she selected for the exhibit.

First place was awarded to Bettina Frost of Wayland, New York for Light Fest. Ms. Berry commented, “The stillness of this ‘action’ photo makes the viewer pause for a second look at what is really happening. The sparks create a perfect lighting effect. This photograph successfully captures a moment–you can almost see, hear and feel what is next.”

The second place recipient was Richard Engelbrecht of Conesus, New York for his piece Dawn Launch. “The nostalgia of place and time is perfectly rendered in this crisp photo. This is a classic,” wrote Berry.
Mark Corwine of Andover, New York was awarded third place for his photograph There’s a Thought. The juror’s comments included, “Beauty can be found in unexpected places and ways. The composition of the photo is perfectly balanced. The textures and colors of the subject matter add to the overall feeling.”
Reception attendees voted for the People’s Choice Award, a $25 gift certificate to Dansville ArtWorks, which was given to Lima, New York’s Travis Snyder for Out of Service.

An anonymous sponsor supported this year’s exhibit and cash awards. Board president Nicole Alioto expressed ArtWorks’ appreciation for the donation and increased interest in this year’s exhibit. “We are thrilled to have received more submissions from more artists this year and to have partnered with a highly talented juror. Likewise, attendance at our opening reception was significantly higher. Three of the four awardees are new to our venue, and we are pleased that our efforts to promote and sustain art in our community are fruitful.”
The Juried Photography Exhibit will be on display through March 31, and the arts center is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. All pieces in the exhibit are available for purchase, and several of the participating artists are selling other photographs at ArtWorks during the exhibit’s term.
