The artisans of the Rochester Folk Art Guild announce that their Fall Open House and Apple Festival will be 12 noon to 5 on Saturday, October 8 and Sunday, October 9. Many in the area wait for this weekend to enjoy the special welcome extended by this long-standing community. Craftspeople in the various studios are glad to speak with visitors about their creations. The workshops and East Hill Gallery are all set up with new work, there is apple cider fresh pressed in the yard, and organic fruit is available to taste and take home. This is a favorite family event, with self-guided tours of the farm and orchards available.

Stalwart Guild members press fresh apples to make cider for Open House visitors.
In addition to the woodworking, pottery, natural fiber clothing, weaving, and graphic arts, there will be a novel display in “Romeo” with information about the upcoming fiber series, including samples and techniques that will be taught during the series (eco-dyeing, mending, natural dyeing, sewing, weaving). All are invited to the make and take craft table to make a pom pom ornament from yarn, or even a garland. Pom pom makers, instruction, and yarn will be provided. Finally, you can sign up for the October 16 Community Mending Day where people can bring clothing and blankets needing repair to learn how to repair them before winter.
The Open House and Apple Festival is a free event, with plenty of parking. The Guild is located at 1445 Upper Hill Road in Middlesex, off Route 364 south of Canandaigua. Signs guide visitors to the site. For more information on Guild events, go to www.folkartguild.org.
