The Ontario County Arts Council and Ontario Pathways have partnered to create the Ontario Art Trails. This exciting and unique venture is bringing art to the public in an outdoor setting.
Ontario Pathways is a not-for-profit, rail-to-trail organization. The trail is open year round from dawn to dusk and is free to the general public to use. The 25-mile multi-use, non-motorized trail system is located entirely in Ontario County. The trail stretches from Canandaigua to Stanley to Phelps.
Three sections of Ontario Pathways feature paintings and photography of outdoor scenes and animals from a variety of locations in Ontario County. The artwork is reproduced on an all-weather material and the 18” by 24” posters are mounted on posts along the trail.
The first section includes 13 pieces of artwork and has been installed beginning at the Ontario Street kiosk and extending to East Street behind the old Lisk buildings in Canandaigua. A grand opening is tentatively scheduled to coincide with National Trails Day, Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 11 a.m.
Additional installations include the County Road 46 trailhead (by the Pathways Community Church) and the trail extending from the Stanley kiosk (intersection of Flint Road and Mott Road). Opening ceremonies for these two trail sections are June 8 and June 15 respectively. All ceremonies begin at 11 a.m.
The Ontario Art Trails Project was awarded a project grant from the Ontario County American Rescue Plan for Arts, Culture and Recreation Grant Support Program. Additional sponsorship has been awarded by Maguire Ford of Canandaigua.
