Music on the Mall
Kick-off Memorial Day weekend with outdoor music on Friday, May 23rd, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the State Street bandshell across from Moondog’s Lounge. Join us for a performance by the Pocket Bandits, who are inspired by instrumental dance bands like Soulive and Snarky Puppy. Band member Joe Massa delivers vibrant electric guitar; Simom Bjarning plays funky, grandiose drums; and Samuel B.
Lupowitz juggles melodies, harmonies, and basslines on the Hammond organ, synthesizers, and pedal keyboards. After that show, Moondog’s Lounge will host the afterglow party with music by Psychedelic Sushi from 10 p.m. to Midnight.
The open container is waived for this free concert, and the street will be closed to traffic. Please patronize the restaurants and breweries that State Street and Downtown Auburn have to offer. Music on the Mall is brought to you by the City of Auburn Parks & Recreation Department, event sponsors and Auburn Downtown BID.
City of Auburn’s Annual Memorial Day Parade
Come watch the parade on Monday, May 26 on Genesee Street at 11 a.m. Participants include veteran’s organizations, government officials, sports teams, school groups, EMS vehicles and more. After, attend the Memorial Day Veteran’s Wreath Laying ceremony at approximately noon, at Veteran’s Memorial Park.
Food Truck Rodeo
For lunch, check out Auburn Downtown BID’s Food Truck Rodeo on Market Street from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participating vendors include Between Your Buns, Leo’s Donuts, Poppy’s Ice Cream Truck, Real Pit BBQ, Rosalie’s Cruisin’ Cucina, Silver Street Kettle Corn, and Tonzi’s Catering Company. In addition, Knights of Columbus will be grilling hot dogs for purchase, and CIAO will be selling their famous pizza frittes. If it’s a cold adult beverage you’re in the mood for, Shep’s Brewing Co. will have just the thing.
Market Street Park Live Entertainment
Bring a chair and enjoy your lunch with live music performed by the band Ménage A Soul from 12:30 to 2:45 p.m. under the Market Street Park band shell. This CNY high-energy dance band offers a blend of soulful vocals, a dynamic horn section, and a rock-solid rhythm section.
Ménage A Soul members include Ariel Bryant (Lead Vocals); John Saltamach (Trumpet & Lead Vocals); Luis Molina (Lead Vocals & Percussion); Michael Davis (Organ & Electric Piano); Dave Frateschi (Sax & Flute); Clayton Morgan (Trombone & Trumpet); Dickie Cappotto (Guitar); Dan Malarik (Bass); and Rock Carbone (Drums & Vocals).
Duck Derby
From 1 to 2:30 p.m., the Duck Derby sponsored by TomatoFest, Onondaga Coach, and the Ancient Order of the Hibernians happens at Market Street Park as well. Tickets can be purchased for $5 at downtown
locations including Auburn Bagel Co., Auburn YMCA-WEIU, Hairlooms, NYS Equal Rights Heritage Center, Lyons National Bank, Knights of Columbus, Silbert Optical, Speno Music, and Wild Flower NY.
There will be ticket booths on Genesee Street & Loop Road and merchandise tables in and around Market Street Park, plus children’s activities.
Considering the recent flooding and heavy rains, for safety purposes the ducks will not be released into the Owasco River. The derby tickets will all be combined into a large bin and the prize winners will be hand selected by City Councilor Ginny Kent at 2:30 p.m.. Ten cash prizes ranging from $100 – $1500 will be awarded. Event proceeds will help feed local families via food pantries located all over Cayuga County.
