An amazing body of artwork from Galen Silver can be viewed at Pittsford Fine Art on Friday, July 11 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Galen Silver is a native of Rochester, NY and grew up in what is now the Neighborhood of the Arts. While in grade school, he took art classes at the Memorial Art Gallery. Towards the latter part of his career in business, he revisited painting and re-discovered his passion. He is now a full-time visual arts practitioner whose primary creative medium is oil on canvas. He paints in a variety of styles and particularly enjoys subject matter that focuses on painting people in settings where the viewer can imagine a story. Galen embraces the challenge of capturing the personality of the subjects and paints until he feels he has a permanent connection to that work.
“I’m guessing that like a lot of artists, art was my favorite thing as a child,” states Galen. “I was always drawing, painting, sculpting and taking art classes. Like some artists, I drifted away from it as an adult, but apparently the fun of creating never left. When I start a new painting, I like to jump into the water and learn how to swim all over again. My work never exactly resembles what I imagined when I started, because I go where the painting takes me. When it’s completed, I like the feeling of arriving at a destination.”
Usually working from a photograph, Galen’s work includes commissions as well as paintings of his choice. Over the scope of his work, he tries to incorporate humor, irony, ambiguity and sometimes all three elements.

Pittsford Fine Art, a gallery owned and run by 23 prominent regional artists, is open Tuesday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 11 am to 5 p.m. and until 8 p.m. each First Friday. Original art, art prints and notecards make unique gifts and are available for purchase at the gallery.
