The Wayne County Historical Society’s Museum of Wayne County History has invited Loreen Jorgensen to talk at the upcoming History at Night, Thurs. Oct. 6, 2016 at 6:30pm.
Jorgensen will be giving her presentation, “Wayne County Churches: Part I.” A retired teacher and volunteer at the Museum of Wayne County History, Jorgensen became interested in Wayne County Churches and church history when she helped researching the exhibit, “Wayne County, the Burned Over District.” With the amount of research that she has done, Jorgensen can be considered the foremost expert on Wayne County Churches. In her talk, Jorgensen will cover about forty-two churches, at least one from every township and all of the major denominations are included.
“Wayne County has had over 250 active churches and I would say that a good one third of them are closed and more churches are closing every year,” said Jorgensen.
At this time, Jorgensen is also writing a book on Wayne County Churches that will be available in 2017.
