Pittsford Fine Art Presents Featured Artist Jerry Alonzo. Exhibition on view September 1 through September 27. An opening reception will be held on Friday, September 4, from 5 to 8 p.m.
Pittsford Fine Art is pleased to showcase HONOR THE ORDINARY, a featured exhibition by Geneseo artist Jerry Alonzo. A creator of unique wooden sculptures, Alonzo uses a visual vocabulary of simple house forms, birds, boats, flowers, and engraved text, leveraging wood’s beauty to engage the viewer.
Alonzo’s work features found wood and objects that add a natural voice to a conversation honoring the ordinary. His display of joyful, thought provoking, and meticulous art inspires a discussion of a world that is often unfair yet beautiful.
One facet of Alonzo’s wood sculptures includes pieces that explore social and environmental justice in a fraught but beautiful world. Alonzo creates art that may serve as a talisman to support one’s daily actions.
Alonzo’s work reflects a life balancing law and woodworking. He has been a lawyer and judge for over 40 years and has worked with wood even longer. At first self-taught, Alonzo later earned an MFA at RIT. These two path co-existed separately for many years, eventually converging to enrich each other.
“I’m an optimist by nature but find that challenging these days. I hope for better days and use my art to express that,” says Alonzo.“With ‘Justice is God’s Plumbline,’ (shown below) I know that with time the plumb bob will recenter.”

An opening reception will be held on Friday, September 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. with the artist in attendance. The exhibition is free and open to the public during regular gallery hours.
