Fur and Feathers in Watercolor

"Rest Stop" watercolor, by Brenda Cretney

On Friday, June 7, come to Pittsford Fine Art to witness the extraordinary watercolors of Brenda Cretney. The opening runs from 5 to 8 p.m.

Most all of my subject matter in my watercolors are animals,” says artist Brenda Cretney. “I have always been fascinated with animals and love painting them. I like to be able to show something of the animal’s personality, such as a dog with his favorite ball, or a cat doing something it does every day besides sleeping.”

Cretney paints from photographs and many times use a video to catch the right image. After doing a sketch on watercolor paper, she paints the eyes first and let them tell her how the rest of the painting should go.

Brockport is where Cretney was born, and she has lived there all her life. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree and a Master of Math Education Degree at the State University of New York Brockport. She taught elementary school for 30 years and began painting in watercolors and found that her favorite subject matter was animals.

Cretney is a proud member of Brockport Artists' Guild, the Ontario County Arts Council, the Central New York Watercolor Society, the Rochester Art Club, the Baltimore Watercolor Society, the Niagara Frontier Watercolor Society and the North East Watercolor Society.

Meet Cretney, the June featured artist, on First Friday, June 7, from 5 to 8 pm.
