The many fans of local country music legend, Dick Jopson, will not want to miss the “Tribute to Dick Jopson Music Jam” sponsored by the Little Lakes Community Association on Sunday, June 2, 2019. This memorable event is planned for 2:00 to 6:00 p. m. at the Livonia Center Legion. The many remarkable musicians who loved and played with Dick over the years have all been invited, along with other local musicians, to honor Dick and to celebrate his life through his music.
The admission is $12, which includes not only the music, but also a chicken BBQ by “Charred to Perfection.” The meal also includes all the fixin’s. Admission for the entertainment only is $5. Raffles and baked goods will also be available.
Dick Jopson, a resident of Hemlock, passed away last fall, following a lengthy illness. He was well-known as a country music performer who has made thousands of public appearances since taking up professional singing 60 years ago. He was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his “outstanding contributions to country music” during a banquet and concert ceremony at the New York State Country Music Museum and Park in Cortland on October 30, 2016. This is the highest of three recognitions bequeathed by the museum, and is reserved for only a single person each year. Jopson had previously been awarded membership in their Country Music Wall of Honor in 2012, and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2013. Jopson was also honored as the very first Livingston County Legend, based on his years of service as former constable for Livonia, a Geneseo police officer, and as the former Livingston County Sheriff, as well as his generous contributions to the community.
Members of Jopson’s band, The Northernaires have been invited to play at the tribute. They include Bob Burdick, lead guitar, Dave Domm, bass guitar, Mike Murphy, drums, and Cathy Flower, vocals and rhythm, among others. At the event CD’s of the band’s recordings will be available for sale.
In his final years, Dick and his wife, Donna, became active members of the Little Lakes Community Association in Hemlock. They generously volunteered their time for the organization and donated the proceeds to LLCA of a musical event at which Dick and his band performed last year. He continues to be missed by so many of his neighbors and friends.
