Keuka Lake…where wine making first began in the region over 150 years ago. It is the birthplace of the Finger Lakes wine industry and the home of wine innovation ever since. This tour celebrates the wineries on Keuka who made history all those years ago, and those who continue to make history with some of the most talked about wines in the region.
The tour begins in the village square in the heart of Hammondsport. Learn about the birth of the Finger Lakes grape and wine industry as we make our way toPleasant Valley Wine Company, the first bonded winery in the United States. We will tour their historic winery, see the champagne caves from the late 1800’s, and learning how the winery grew to become Taylor Wine Company – one of the largest wine producers in the mid-twentieth century. Taste one of the few remaining wines in the US that still can be referred to as Champagne, as well as other wines that defined the region in the late 1800s and post-prohibition 1900s.
We will then head back into the village of Hammondsport to enjoy a wine-pairing lunch at Luna Mezza Grille featuring local finger lakes wines.
After lunch, the tour continues at Dr. Konstantin Frank’s Wine Cellars, the igniter of the Vinifera wine revolution in the Finger Lakes. Enjoy a historically narrated wine tasting that unfolds half a century and three generations of wine making in the Frank family. Visit Chateau Frank, their family’s sparking wine facility. Explore the cellar and learn the traditional champagne method of making sparking wine directly from the wine maker.
The tour culminates with a private tasting at Heron Hill Winery, where we will feature vineyard-specific vintages of rieslings, cabernets and other Finger Lakes varietals that are defining our region in the 21st century.
Price: $130 per person. This price includes the transportation, all tasting fees, the tour at Chateau Frank, lunch, and special food pairings. There is a 5 guest minimum needed in order to run this tour. Custom touring rates are available if this minimum is not reached.
