Gasali Adeyemo will teach traditional Nigerian fiber techniques (Adire Eleko and Tie-Dye with indigo) and discuss how his culture informs his artmaking. Adire Eleko is the process of creating designs using cassava paste (also called yucca), a small broom, and a chicken feather. Tie-Dye is the process of using raffia to tie fabric before dyeing. Gasali will demonstrate various techniques on how to prepare and apply cassava, as well as different ways of using raffia to create designs for Tie-Dye. After the designs are created, students will learn how to prepare indigo and use it to dye their work.
The cost is $377 for Schweinfurth members and $387 for nonmembers. To register, link to our website or call the art center at 315.255.1553.
