Sterling Nature Center Celebrates National Poetry Month
While the weather is proving T.S. Eliot right about April being the “cruelest” month, the Sterling Nature Center is planning on becoming a hot house of verse and rhyme. For the 12th year, the center is hosting its Poetry Extravaganza and Coffee House on Sunday, April 22nd from 2-4 at its Jenzvold Road facility. The annual event honors National Poetry Month and is a celebration of nature and the spoken word.
Started as a yearly poetry fixture by Jim Pangborn, it has flourished as a spontaneous open mic event and everyone is welcome to read nature-inspired poems or prose. Our motto is,” Bring a poem and Bring a friend.”
Scheduled to read this year are Chris Motto, whose work has appeared in Black River Review, So to Speak: A Feminist Journal of Language and Art, and Fresh Ink Poets, Tim McCoy, whose poems have been published in The Comstock Review, The Meadowland Review, and Stone Canoe, and Laura Donnelly, author of Watersheds. Joining them will be Stephanie Pritchard, Steve Smith, Bob Early and Charlie Itzin.
Mark April 22nd on your poetic calendar and come out and enjoy great nature, verse, and refreshments.
The Sterling Nature Center is located at 15380 Jenzvold Road, one mile north of the Renaissance Festival. For more information call 947-6143.
