What is the New Military Tract? How was it surveyed? Who were the surveyors? How can I find a particular property? Which lot do I live on? How can I access the information from my computer or my phone? What is a Gunther Chain? How was this amazing map created?
You can find out at the Logan Landmark on the corner of County Roads 2 and 4 in Logan, NY, at 2 pm on August 20th
A presentation by Keith Jenkins who has entered data transcribed from the field books recorded by the original surveyors who laid out the military tract. The online map will include the towns of Ovid, Lodi, Covert, Hector, Ulysses and Enfield.
Keith works at Cornell University, where he is the GIS and Geospatial Applications Librarian at Mann Library. He helps students, faculty, and staff at Cornell find geospatial data and to use software such as QGIS and ArcGIS to analyze their data and make maps. This project was conceived and started by Allan Buddle and Bob Kibbee, implemented by volunteers for the BRHG.
