Pittsford Fine Art
Bill Finewood paints highly realistic landscapes and wildlife in oil. That devotion to detail and to natural beauty will be on display throughout December at the Pittsford gallery, where Finewood is the month’s featured artist. Finewood, who lives in Ontario, Wayne County, will attend the gallery’s First Friday reception on Dec. 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. Details can be found on our Facebook event.
Finewood retired in 2019 after 20 years teaching at Rochester Institute of Technology, where he was an associate professor and coordinator of RIT’s illustration program. He spent part of his summers visiting family in Montana, “where there are certainly plenty of spectacular scenes and willing wildlife to hold my attention for weeks on end,” he said. But the natural surroundings nearer to home also provide material for paintings of “something inspiring and really beautiful.”
Finewood is a longtime member of Wayne Arts and is a member of Genesee Valley Plein Air Painters. He will teach a painting class at Wayne Arts, in Newark, in March on his approach to realistic painting.
Pittsford Fine Art is open Tuesday through Thursday, noon to 5 p.m.; Friday, noon to 8 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Parking is available in front of the gallery at 4 North Main Street, or at the nearby public parking lot.
