Please join us in welcoming back piano virtuoso and Auburn native Nicholas Hyrnyk for a hometown performance. The program will feature the stormy music of Beethoven in his “Appassionata” Sonata and the French Impressionistic sounds of Claude Debussy in his Suite Bergamasque, known for its depiction of moonlight in “Clair de Lune”.
Nicholas is the 2016 winner of the New York MTNA Steinway Young Artist Piano Competition. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, School of American Ballet at Lincoln Center, National Opera Center of America, Chautauqua Music Festival, Skaneateles Music Festival, Moulin d’Ande Cultural Center in France, and New York Fashion Week. Recent highlights include the 2017 release of the album “Love Unspoken” with violinist Nadia Maudhoo and an upcoming solo recital at the An Die Musik concert series in New York City.
Originally from Auburn, New York, Nicholas studied at the Eastman School of Music and Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in piano performance under the tutelage of Natalya Antonova and Arnaldo Cohen. His other mentors include Deirdre O’Donohue at New York University and John Spradling in Syracuse, New York. Nicholas has performed in numerous master classes including renowned artists such as Menahem Pressler, Ursula Oppens, Andre Laplante, and Frank Glazer.
A passionate educator, Nicholas previously taught at New York University as an Adjunct Faculty Member and Indiana University as an Associate Instructor. This is the first in the series of three concerts to be presented by men who grew up in Auburn and have come back to play in History’s Hometown. In addition to Nick Hyrnyk, bassist Zane Carnes and violinist Jimmy Drancsak will be performing on June 3rd, 2018, and pianist John Liberatore will be performing on July 1st, 2018.
