The Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes opens its 2022-23 season on Saturday, October 8 at 7:00 pm, at Christ Episcopal Church, 33 East First Street, in Corning, NY.
The OSFL’s own principal clarinetist, Emily Dobmeier, takes center stage as soloist for the Mozart Clarinet Concerto. Under the direction of Maestro Toshiyuki Shimada, the OSFL will also perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 and American composer Amy Beach’s “Bal Masque” written in 1893.
Beethoven struggled with suicidal ideations at the time he wrote his second symphony. On the heels of September’s Suicide Awareness Month, Maestro Shimada has prepared a preconcert talk about Beethoven’s story. He overcame his suicidal thoughts and went on to write some of the greatest masterpieces in classical music.
The preconcert lecture is two days prior to the concert. Don’t miss it on Thursday, October 6 at 7 PM at Christ Episcopal Church in Corning. Live streaming is also available. More information about both events at https://www.osfl.org/octoberconcert22.html
