Opening Reception and Exhibit: Pure Pigment
Coloring with chalk is child’s play, “sidewalk art”. But grown-ups call their chalks “pastels”, and they paint pictures with PURE PIGMENT. While other media use water or oils to carry the color to the painting, pastels lay down pure pigment, and therefore can be exceptionally brilliant.
Pure Pigment is an exhibit featuring the paintings of Mark Verna, a popular Webster painter, many of them in pastel. His rendition of Grimes Glen is so inviting, one could hear the water running over the rocks and feel the sun’s rays. Also on display will be pastels by Wendy Harris of Syracuse. Last summer Wendy was honored to be an artist in residence at the Art Center’s Sunny Point on Keuka. Her week of wandering and painting depicts the beauty and peace of the Keuka area. Soapstone carver, Sandy Cline, of Ontario, Canada, will fill out the featured area of the gallery with his bears and loons and birds and wolves, polished to a shine. His love of the natural world is turned, by his hands, into deep green carvings, reminiscent of jade.
The opening reception for PURE PIGMENT will be Friday, May 8, from 5:00-7:00 PM. Wine will be provided and music by Barbara Anderson at the piano. Please bring your friends and enjoy the art, hors d’oeuvres, punch or wine, and the energy of artists sharing their passion in PURE PIGMENT. The Arts Center of Yates County is located at 127 Main Street, Penn Yan, NY, 14527. Check the website, www.artscenteryatescounty.org or email artscenter@acyc.org for more information.
