On Friday, July 3, 2015 at 7pm, at the First Unitarian Society of Ithaca, the Finger Lakes Finns will host a concert by Olli Hirvonen. Finlandia Foundation National has named Hirvonen, a Finnish jazz guitarist living in New York City, Performer of the Year (POY) for 2014-15.
Hirvonen, who was born in Lappeenranta in southeast Finland, began studying classical guitar and piano at the age of nine. He earned a Bachelor of Music at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki in 2011 and two years later his Master of Music degree at the Manhattan School of Music in New York. He’s appeared at that jazz festival and more than a dozen other major events including last year’s Nordic Cool at Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Hirvonen releases his debut album “Detachment” this summer.

The concert is free and open to the public with donations to Finger Lakes Finns greatly appreciated. A reception with refreshments will immediately follow.

The Finger Lakes Finns is organized to promote cultural and educational appreciation of Finnish heritage and customs, to provide a social setting for enjoying old and new friendships in the Finnish tradition, and to pursue charitable community activities. Interested community members are invited to our monthly programs. Please visit our website for more information: www.fingerlakesfinns.org

This event is supported by Finlandia Foundation National.
