Artist Dan Hill (Cayuga Nation, Heron Clan) will discuss and demonstrate the art of making traditional Haudenosaunee Trade Silver Jewelry, as well as the art of making and playing traditional wooden flutes. Through storytelling, Hill will explain how the history and designs of his silverwork reflect Haudenosaunee creation stories; and how his flutes and music represent Haudenosaunee communication with and responsibilities to the natural world.
The event, part of the Schweinfurth’s Folk Arts Series and a celebration of Native American Heritage Day, is funded in part with a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. The event is free and open to the public.
