The public is invited to a program on Hawkes Glass on Thursday, May 2 at 2:00 pm, at the Yates County History Center, 107 Chapel Street, Penn Yan, NY. The program is free.
Tricia Noel will discuss T.G. Hawkes & Co. and the American Brilliant style of cut glass they produced from 1880 to 1915. Hawkes developed and perfected a style of cutting glass into highly complex, award-winning patterns. Noel will discuss the history of the company and the patterns they produced. Tricia Noel is the Executive Director and Curator at the Yates County History Center, and a native of Geneva. She and her husband collect Hawkes glass.
Those planning to attend the program should consider arriving early to view the current exhibit at the History Center, “Lakelife: Communities Shaped by Water.” It tells the story of how Keuka, Seneca and Canandaigua lakes have shaped the culture of their nearby communities for thousands of years. There is no fee but donations are welcome.
The Hawkes Glass program is sponsored by the Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes and will be held in Penn Yan through the courtesy of the Yates County History Center. The usual meeting place of the Antiques Club, the Geneva History Museum, will be closed for renovations until fall.
