“Leaving Their Mark: The Elmira Art Club 1934-1965” is now on view in the East Gallery. This exhibition celebrates the mid-century members of the Elmira Art Club and their long-standing relationship with the Museum.
The Elmira Art Club was founded in 1869 to “improve local art knowledge and cultivate a taste for the beautiful in our city.” They held their first annual exhibition at the Arnot Art Museum – then called the Arnot Art Gallery – during the 1930s. The Club exists today as the Elmira Regional Art Society and their annual Palette Awards exhibition continues to be hosted by the Museum.
