The new Little Lakes Community Center in Hemlock will host two very special events for backyard gardeners just in time for springtime planting activities!
On Thursday, May 17 from 6:30 to 8:30 our Sustainability Series comes to a close with a talk by Petra Page-Mann, owner of Fruition Seeds in Naples, “Seven Essentials for a More Abundant Garden.” The mission of Fruition Seeds is “Organic seeds for the North East.” Petra will also offer seeds and plants for sale that evening. Light refreshments will be served. Admission is free and the public is welcome.
On Saturday, May 19 from 1:00 to 4:00 p. m. in the Yoga Bhoga Studio, which has just moved back into the building, the instructor, Audrey Harpe is partnering with Patty Love from Barefoot Permaculture in Rochester to offer, “Permaculture and Yoga.”
Yoga is a practice of self-care. It’s about slowing down and deepening our awareness. Yoga allows for clarity, deep seeing and a physical practice that allows us to take care of our bodies and minds so that we can take care of our environment. How can we sustain our lifestyle? Our daily activities? Yoga is a practice of sustainability.
Permaculture is also a practice of sustainability, or more properly, of regeneration. Permaculture is a design science, rooted in natural systems that, like yoga, invites us to deepen our awareness, slow down the interaction process and let the feedback of the system guide our next steps. The ethics and practices can be applied to the design of any system, from a city to a lifestyle, to a garden. How can we sustain our yard? How can we create a garden that is easy to care for? Do we want to feed critters or humans or both?
We will be exploring yoga poses to support our bodies before, during, and after working in the Earth.
We will be –
Discovering what yoga and permaculture have in common.
Gardening like Mama Nature as we plant a tiny food forest!
The cost for this workshop is $60 and is open to the general public. To register please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
