Clifton Springs—Five visual arts exhibitions open on Saturday, April 18 at Main Street Arts in Clifton Springs, New York.  The Artist Reception is from 3-6pm on Saturday, April 18.

In the Main Gallery, the two-artist invitational, The Garden Within, opens featuring artists Sara Baker Michalak (Dunkirk-Fredonia, NY) and Jari Poulin (Ithaca, NY).

Sara Baker Michalak’s mixed media work makes deep ties between the earth and ourselves; Her work reveals our shared, deep histories and cyclical yet varied experiences of ‘wonder awe, sustenance, and source’.  Making references to natural world elements and transposing observations of the physical world into layered, formal visual language is a mainstay in her work.  She creates abstract ‘landscapes of time’ which are narrative-based series demonstrating the “ephemeral-nature” of our lives and our place within the “ageless flow”.  Sara has worked across platforms, programs, media, and genre—including a contemporary focus in tapestry and fiber art, facilitating art-making with those with developmental disabilities, to work with wide experimentations in process and materials.  She regularly exhibits her work across the USA and propagates native plants and wildflowers near Canadaway Creek in western NY.

Jari Poulin is a fine art photographer and educator with two series on exhibition-including ‘The Cosmos Garden’ and ‘Where the Willows Weep’.  She is widely recognized for her experimental photography having exhibited and taught throughout the world.  Jari uses movement, landscape, memory, perception, and the emotional landscape to guide her work.  Her series, ‘The Cosmos Garden’ formed in 2025 using triple-exposed, expired polaroids; She is exhibiting enlarged prints and 3D block sets from this series.  ‘Where the Willows Weep’  was created in 2022-23 and reflects ‘an internal passage through grief towards a tentative sense of healing’ (Poulin).  This black and white photography work is printed on Yupo paper and hand-painted with metallic inks; It suggests connections between her childhood, present life, and the ‘fragile continuity between them’.

These bodies of work are on exhibit in ‘The Garden Within’ from April 18 – May 27 in the Main Gallery.

The Window Front Gallery features sculptures and installations by Japie King Black (Brockport, NY).  The Stairwell Gallery features oil paintings by Viktoriya Ivanova (Canandaigua, NY).  The Emerging Artist Gallery features paintings by Nazareth College student artist, Mikayla Guck (Rochester, NY).  Additionally, a fifth exhibition, ’Eternal Understanding: Egyptian Mythology’ features artwork by students in the Mountain Room of Moodie’s Children’s Hours School of Geneva, NY.  The instructor is Maria Galens.

These 5 exhibitions are free to visit and view at Main Street Arts through May 27, 2026.
