Erie Canalway Trail
Perinton, NY, January 30, 2018— Crescent Trail Hiking Association will be offering the next monthly hike on Sunday, February 11, 1:30PM. Hike, cross-country ski, or snowshoe on the Erie Canalway Trail starting from behind the Box Factory building on the northeast side of the Erie Canal at Main Street in the Village of Fairport. Park, meet, start and end at the public-parking lot off Lift Bridge Lane East (behind the Box Factory). The hike will head east on the Canalway Trail, continuing under and past Turk Hill Road, then continuing no farther than the Lyndon Road Bridge, where the hike will turn around and backtrack to the starting point.
The free monthly hikes are organized and hosted by the Crescent Trail Hiking Association. Adults, teens and children under the age of 16, when supervised by an adult, are welcome to participate. All hikes start at 1:30 PM on the second Sunday of the month all year-round. Hikes are usually up to 2 hours in duration. No pre-registration required. At any point of the hike, you may turn around and return to the start.
The Crescent Trail (a network of public footpaths) and the Crescent Trail Hiking Association (a non-profit organization of volunteers) were largely responsible for the American Hiking Society and U.S. National Parks Service naming the community of Perinton-Fairport as a Trail Town USA in 1996. Now, more than twenty years later, the Crescent Trail, the Crescent Trail Hiking Association, the Town of Perinton’s Recreation and Parks Department, and the hundreds of people who use the trails year-round continue that legacy.
