Elizabeth Blackwell Is Featured in Jan. 18 Zoom Event with author Janice Nimura
The public is invited to learn about pioneering doctor Elizabeth Blackwell in a Zoom conversation with author Janice Nimura on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 7:00 pm. Nimura wrote The Doctors Blackwell: How Two Pioneering Sisters Brought Women to Medicine and Medicine to Women. The book was a Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Biography in 2022.
This Zoom event marks the 175th anniversary of Elizabeth Blackwell’s graduation from Geneva Medical College in January 1849, thus becoming the first female graduate of a medical school in the United States. Her sister Emily graduated in 1854 from the Medical College of Cleveland, Ohio, a branch of Western Reserve University.
The program is presented by the Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes and Historic Geneva, whose Geneva History Museum is located a few doors from the site of the former Geneva Medical College on Main Street, Geneva, New York.
