The early bird catches the breakfast worm, and the early birders get to watch while eating breakfast of their own! Come join the Saunders Finger Lakes Museum to watch our local bird population at their most active time of day, when they are foraging for insects for their chicks! Some species of birds dependent on grasslands for nesting cover and foraging areas are threatened or endangered due to lack of suitable habitat. Where appropriate habitat does exist, grassland species can be locally abundant.
Join SFLM volunteers and friends for a morning walk across an upland property where open areas are now managed primarily for the benefit of these birds. Find out what’s happening there in support of grassland birds, walk about a mile to identify and record numerous species of birds, and review notes on birds identified at the end of the morning over some breakfast beverages and light food items. Wear shoes for rough mown paths and some potentially muddy locations, a hat and other weather appropriate clothes. Sunscreen, insect repellent and binoculars are highly advised.
