“A Time Capsule in Your Backyard” will be presented on Thursday, October 5, at 7:00 p.m. at the Geneva History Museum, 543 S. Main Street, Geneva. The program is presented by the Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes and is free and open to the public.

The speaker is Peter Jablonski of Akron, NY. This intriguing presentation features treasures of the past, including bottles, pottery, china and more excavated from privy or outhouse pits in the western New York area.

Privies, lined with stone, brick or wood, can range from 2′ – 20′ deep. Peter will tell how to locate a privy, why garbage was thrown in them, how to date the bottles and other items, and more. There will be a large display of artifacts unearthed in privy pits over the years. Video footage will also be shown of an actual dig.

Peter is the President of the Greater Buffalo Bottle Collectors Association. He has been buying, selling and appraising antiques and collectibles for over 20 years and presents a variety of programs.

The Antiques Club of the Finger Lakes is in its 49th year of programming. Meetings are free and open to the public, but membership is welcome and encouraged at $10 per year. Programs include meetings at the Geneva History Museum, field trips and social events.
