It’s time to gather your friends and family and come to the 4-H Youth Fair from Thursday, July 23rd through Saturday, July 25th. This annual celebration features many different talents and fun activities including plant, environmental, mechanical, home environment and animal science exhibits, a Creative Table Setting Contest, amazing art work and photography. Animal shows, exceptional food, and family events happen daily. Free Admission! Free Parking! Bring the Family!
Thursday we have Smoothie Contest and a Walking Taco evening meal YUM! A talent show, and a “Chili Cook-off” are on the schedule for Friday evening and Saturday is Family Fun Day! Come try your hand at one of our game booths, watch the Dog and Rabbit Shows, and go on a nature hike. A Silent Auction will be held from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
What’s a county fair without delicious food? The Country Kitchen will provide a daily menu of fair favorites starting at 1:00 p.m. Saturday’s mouth-watering chicken barbecue starts at 11:30am and will be topped off with a good old-fashioned ice cream social. So don’t worry, you won’t leave hungry!
4-H’ers exhibit projects and skills they have been working on the entire year. Youth learn that the evaluation process is not just about winning; they learn to develop standards through evaluation. Through conference judging, they practice effective communication with an adult and learn how to ask questions to obtain knowledge. They learn about sportsmanship—to be humble winners and gracious losers. They show mastery of skills through contests and shows. The events foster teamwork and cooperation. Important life skills are developed by the youth participaing in the various events.
Across the county, 4-H Members are gaining life experiences and developing leadership skills through activities that culminate in exhibiting their projects at fair time. They are leaders today. They will be leaders tomorrow. The Tompkins County 4-H Acres Youth Fair celebrates their leadership and accomplishments. Stop by and celebrate their triumphs with us from July 23rd-25th!
