The 2015 Central New York Scottish Games and Celtic Festival will be half on August 8, 2015 at Long Branch Park in Liverpool (near Syracuse), rain or shine. Gates open at 9:00am with individual piping, drumming and dancing competitions going on all morning. Opening ceremonies with the massing of all the participating bagpipe bands and drum majors is scheduled for noon (get there early for parking). The festival concludes with another massing of the bagpipe bands and closing ceremonies at 5:00pm. A ceilidh (party) follows from 6:00-8:00pm, under the entertainment tent!
Included in the days events are massed bagpipe bands and band competitions; solo bagpiping, dancing, drumming and drum major competitions; Irish and Scottish dancing demonstrations; Scottish, Irish and American foods; clan tents and genealogy; Highland cattle on display; Irish and Scottish dry goods vendors; Harmony of Harps; Scottish Small Pipe Society; and amateur, heavy and master class Scottish athletics (throwing the telephone pole, among other events; come out and give it a try!) Some sit down under the Entertainment Tent and listen to Celtic music being performed all morning and throughout the afternoon by Searson, and Sisters of Murphy, and during the party afterwards.
Students in Scottish arts can apply for scholarships during the day at the various Game tents. Scholarship applications are also in the Games program.
Welcome lads and lassies, rain or shine, Scots or not! Bring your folding chairs or blankets and come enjoy the day. Discounted advance sale tickets are available until July 31.
