Spotlight Medley an exhibition between 171 Cedar Arts Center and West End Gallery, opens Friday, October 25.
171 Cedar Arts Center in collaboration with West End Gallery will display vibrant and diverse works by four area artists: Bruce Baxter, Anne Bialke, David Buck, and Ileen Kaplan.
171 Cedar Arts Center kicks off the exhibit on Friday, October 25 during Corning’s Urban Arts Crawl. 171 will offer light hors d’oeuvre (provided by Wegmans), beverage, and live music during the opening reception. Music provided by the Crystal City Flute Choir. The opening reception is from 5 to 8 PM.
Bruce Baxter who primarily deals in oil, will display many familiar street scenes. His free-spirited style is loosely representative. “I don’t try to render photo-realistically what I see but rather interpret and translate it into a work of art… Brushes are my main tools, but I also use a palette knife, fingers and Q-tips.”
Anne Bialke offers oil and acrylic paintings that display much of the natural beauty that engulfs the area. “As I painted the pictures for this show, I focused on color and movement, hoping to bring a vibrant sense of life to the subjects, full of the promise of warm days and cool breezes,” Bialke reveals.
Ileen Kaplan also works in oil with paintings that span from traditional landscapes to unique modern abstract works. “As an observational painter, I am endlessly intrigued by patterns of light and shadow. The most ordinary object becomes overwhelmingly beautiful when light falls on it in just the right way.”
David Buck is the outlier for the evening, presenting works in glass. David Buck began his career with glass in 1974 when he was hired by Corning Glass Works where he worked in some of their various glass forming facilities. “For me, glass is the greatest material available for expressing my creative energy,” admits Buck.
Jesse Gardner from West End Gallery, which represents the four artists, is excited by the upcoming exhibition proclaiming, “It has been an honor working in pARTnership with 171 for a fourth year in a row. It is important to understand the benefits of arts organizations working together. In this case, West End Gallery has an additional venue in which to showcase the stunning works of Baxter, Bialke, Buck, and Kaplan and all four gain additional exposure and another platform to share their beautiful works of art.”
