Rochester Contemporary Art Center and Downtown Partners Launch Public Art Call for Applications in LGBTQ+ Welcoming Building
RFQ Applications are due October 31, 2021
Rochester Contemporary Art Center (RoCo), Home Leasing, and Trillium Health announce a call for applications for a major new public artwork that supports and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community in a new LGBTQ+ welcoming building.
Introduced in July 2021, this project aims to commission a public artwork for a new mixed-income building located on the Inner Loop East Redevelopment Project at East and Union. Artists with both regional and national reputations are invited to apply through the Request for Qualifications (RFQ/RFP) process being administered by RoCo.
RoCo has a long history of involvement with public art in Rochester, hosting temporary public art installations and organizing range of other collaborative public projects and pop-ups. Executive Director / Curator of RoCo, Bleu Cease, is looking forward to expanding the art center’s involvement in citywide public art projects. “Partnering on this permanent installation is an exciting step for RoCo,” he said. “We will convene a diverse panel of arts professionals and stakeholders and demonstrate a transparent commissioning process that honors all artists who participate. We’re thrilled to see Home Leasing’s significant commitment to public art on this new development and hope it inspires other developers and property owners to also prioritize and support public art.“
“Home Leasing is excited to welcome this art competition to Union Square Apartments. Bringing to life the currently blank space is another way to celebrate and recognize the diverse and vibrant community living in the area formerly occupied by the Inner Loop. Home Leasing’s partnership with Rochester Contemporary Art Center, Trillium Health and the artist chosen expresses our commitment to inclusion and carrying out the vision for downtown Rochester,” said Bret Garwood, CEO of Home Leasing.
Applications will be handled through an RFQ/RFP selection process and are due October 31, 2021. The final artwork is scheduled to be installed Fall of 2022. Interested parties can visit this page on RoCo’s website for a timeline, eligibility, and application requirements.
