“Bluff & Vine Seeks” Submissions for Landmark Tenth Issue

Bluff & Vine, the premier literary magazine dedicated to capturing the unique spirit of the Finger Lakes, is seeking submissions for its landmark tenth annual issue. Writers and visual artists with a connection to the area are invited to submit their poetry, fiction, nonfiction, memoir, and cover art for consideration through July 31.

Launched in 2017, the annual anthology has grown into a staple of the region’s cultural landscape, providing a showcase for both established and emerging voices who call the Finger Lakes home or draw inspiration from its waters, vistas, and diverse communities.

Co-founders and editors Alex Andrasik and Bethany Snyder admit that reaching a decade of publication feels surreal, given how the magazine first came to be.

“Alex and I both thought about how fun it would be to start a literary magazine,” Snyder recalls. “But I think we were both waiting for permission to start, like there’s some official literary magazine board who grants approvals,” she laughs.

Once they came up with the name—inspired by the rise of land that overlooks Keuka lake as well as the region’s sprawling vineyards—they began reaching out to local writers. That small group of creatives has grown over the years, reaching far beyond the borders of the Finger Lakes.

“We feature work by our immediate neighbors, but we also proudly publish submissions that come in from across the country,” says Andrasik, noting that love of this area doesn’t require you to live here, just that you have something unique to say about it.

For Issue Ten, the editors are looking for submissions that reflect the diverse experiences of the region. Whether writing about the area’s historic towns, its natural wonders, wine culture, or the quiet realities of everyday life in this part of western New York, the magazine welcomes all perspectives.

Visual artists are also encouraged to submit artwork, with one piece selected to feature as the full-color cover.
