“Bluff & Vine” Commemorates the Yates County Bicentennial

06/29/2023

A special edition of the Penn Yan-based literary magazine Bluff & Vine has been released to coincide with the Yates County Bicentennial.

The Summer 2023 issue, compiled by founding editors Alex Andrasik and Bethany Snyder, features Yates-focused short stories, memoirs, and poetry curated from the first six issues of Bluff & Vine.

The issue also includes historical background about the towns of Yates County and features a foreword from Tricia Noel, who serves as the executive director and curator of the Yates County History Center.

“Pulling poetry and prose from our first six issues that bring to life what it means to live in and love Yates County was tough work,” says Snyder. “We had so many great pieces to choose from.”

Andrasik, who serves on the Bicentennial Committee, is thrilled to include a literary magazine in the year-long celebration. “We’d like to think that when Yates County is celebrating the semiquincentennial in 2073, the county historian will pull this issue of Bluff & Vine out of the archives.”

Snyder and Andrasik are excited to release an issue in June. The yearly issue typically comes out in October or November. “We’re excited to bring them to a new audience who might not know about us, including those who are only here in the summer months,” says Snyder.

Bluff & Vine is available at Longs’ Cards and Books and the Yates County History Center in Penn Yan, and is on Amazon in both print and digital formats.

Submissions for the Fall 2023 issue, including poetry, memoir, nonfiction, fiction, and cover art, are being accepted until August 15 at bluffandvine@gmail.com. Visit bluffandvine.com for more information.
