Auburn Museum to Celebrate 90 Years of Community Service with Commemorative Party

Founding Director Walter Long with the first objects donated to the Cayuga Museum of History and Art

In 1935, Ted Case, the inventor of Movietone, the world’s first commercially successful process for putting sound on film, sold his former home for $1 to a group of local artists looking to create Auburn’s first art museum. On October 13, 1936, the Cayuga Museum of History & Art opened to the public. Since then, the museum and its staff have been dedicated to showcasing the stories of our collective past and preserving those precious memories for future generations.

Please join us on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 5-7 p.m. as we celebrate our 90 years of service in the community and look ahead to what the future holds.

The party will take place in the historic Willard-Case Mansion and feature light refreshments, live music, and a cash bar with beer, wine, and a specialty 90th Anniversary drink. Be sure to check out the silent auction of donated artwork from artists who were featured in our CNY Emerging Artist Project over the years. Be a part of supporting the Cayuga Museum for another 90 years!

Tickets are $35 General Admission, $30 Museum Members. Tickets can be purchased online at cayugamuseum.org or by visiting the museum in person. We encourage people to purchase their tickets in advance.

The Cayuga Museum of History & Art is located at 203 Genesee St. in Auburn, NY. Parking is available in the lot behind the Museum. Street parking is available on Genesee & Washington St.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate 90 years of preserving local history and creating valuable memories. It’s been an honor to play such an important role in our community, and we look forward to what the future holds. We hope you’ll celebrate this milestone with us,” said Kirsten Gosch, Executive Director of the Cayuga Museum & History Art.

Thank you to Lead sponsors Gator’s Specialty Finishes and Lyons National Bank, as well as sponsor Roblee Historic Preservation, for supporting this event.
