RoCo & WXXI team up with ROC Maidan to launch inspiring art show fundraiser
Artists from the Greater Rochester and Finger Lakes area are invited to donate art to a special event designed to raise money for humanitarian aid and medical supplies for Ukraine.
The art will be displayed and sold during the Artists for Ukraine exhibition at Rochester Contemporary Art Center (RoCo), held from Sept. 2 through 17, 2022.
Artists who want to participate in the show should register their Intent to Donate art by May 31 at https://forms.gle/tDLd89xptbWdkv3HA
The non-juried show will accept:
- Ready-to-hang 2-D works up to 32” x 32” (frames preferred)
- Freestanding 3-D works up to 16” x 16”
Art will need to be delivered to RoCo, located at 137 East Avenue in downtown Rochester, between noon and 7 pm on Sunday, August 21.
“Ever since the Russian invasion began in February, we’ve been contacted by artists throughout the community who want to show their support for the courageous people in Ukraine,” said Bleu Cease, Executive Director of RoCo. “We’re proud to offer them a chance to show their work in a special event that will help provide humanitarian and medical aid to Ukraine.”
“More than 11 million Ukrainians have been forced out of their homes, fleeing the advancing Russian army,” added Solomia Laba of ROC Maidan, a local nonprofit that has been providing aid and assistance to Ukraine since 2014. “Cities have been destroyed. Thousands of lives have been lost, including children, women, and the elderly.
“As Russian soldiers retreat, they leave evidence of countless atrocities and war crimes,“ she continued. “It’s the greatest humanitarian disaster in Europe since World War II. That’s why we all need to do everything we can to help the brave and resilient people of Ukraine.”
Artists for Ukraine is being produced in partnership with RoCo, WXXI, and ROC Maidan, with help from other volunteers.
