“Annie Get Your Gun” Auditions

05/13/2019

The Geneva Theatre Guild Youth Theatre is holding auditions on May 21 and 22 at the Geneva High School for their summer musical, Annie Get Your Gun!

With music and lyrics by Irving Berlin, Book by Herbert Fields and Dorothy Fields this is classic musical theatre. Annie Get Your Gun scored a bulls eye when it returned to Broadway in 1999, starring Bernadette Peters and sporting a revised libretto by Tony, Oscar and Emmy winner Peter Stone. Stone reshaped the 1946 book to create a Wild West show-within-a-show that frames the ageless “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better” love story of sharpshooters Annie Oakley and Frank Butler. Stone has added a secondary romance between the younger sister of Frank’s bothersome assistant Dolly, and a boy who is part Native American. Joined to the new book, of course, is that amazing Irving Berlin score, featuring hit after hit after hit. “Irving Berlin’s greatest achievement in the theater,” wrote the New York Post. “Annie Get Your Gun will always be a musical for the ages, one of the Broadway theater’s enduring triumphs.”

Annie Get Your Gun has many lead and featured roles and also incorporates a large ensemble.

Auditions for Annie Get Your Gun will be May 21 and 22. Area youth going into grades 5th-7th are invited to audition from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and those going into grades 8th-graduating seniors are invited to audition from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. either day. Possible callbacks will be held on May 23. Geneva High School Chorus room  is located in the High School wing at 101 Carter Rd. in Geneva.

Helping to celebrate the 125th birthday of a historic Geneva landmark, the show will take place August 2-4 at the Smith Opera House in Geneva.
