The Finger Lakes Region is included in Phase 1 of the partial reopening of New York State, which starts tomorrow, May 15. Even though nonessential businesses will still be limited to curbside pickup, this is still a step in the right direction with infusing the local economy with capital. We are hoping and optimistic that the rest of the opening phases will follow in due course. As before, we ask that you help support Finger Lakes businesses and organizations, especially those that choose to market themselves through Life in the Finger Lakes magazine.

Spending time at home, we realize the importance of simple things. Using handmade pottery makes every day special. Wrapping your hands around a mug as you drink your tea lets you feel the warmth as well as see the beauty of the shape and the colors of the glazes. Mixing your salad in a hand-thrown bowl adds beauty to everyday life. Displaying your new spring flowers in a vase or ikebana lets you appreciate reawakening nature. The warm glow of a candle lantern can sooth your stress. Our shop is not open right now, but we can ship our pottery.

Check out the latest in our Quarantined Studio Visits video series, which features Syracuse textile artist Ann Clarke talking about her new body of work: monumental rugs inspired by the experience of caring for her mother, who has Alzhemier’s Disease. Along with the day-to-day hard work of being a caregiver, Clarke also examines the interesting reality that her mother mentally inhabits, where the past mingles with the present and truth becomes irrelevant.
