This fisher, a relatively uncommon member of the weasel family, was captured on two trail cam videos recently. Once rare in the Finger Lakes, they are rapidly expanding due primarily to the fisher reintroduction program from Pennsylvania, which is overlapped into this region. Ironically many of the fishers used for the Pennsylvania program were live trapped in the Adirondacks and now they are moving back “home.”

Ive seen one a few times on my property by the Italy Hill State Forest. Pretty cool!
Pennsylvania has gone absolutely crazy with this repopulation effort. Some species have been extinct in the state for about 120 years or more. Between the Wolves, Fishers and Black Panthers it has gotten out of hand quickly. They deny all but the Fisher, for good reason.
Love it.
We have had 2 different Fishers on trail cams here in Wayne County also
I live in Albion NY. I’ve seen and heard them near my property numerous times over the last few years. Glad these guys are making a comeback!
