$2 Million Secured for Saunders Finger Lakes Museum

Several months after the initial announcement by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, President Biden has signed an appropriations bill into law post senate green light over the weekend. Schumer first revealed the pending legislation to community members in August at the Saunders Finger Lakes Museum campus. The 2024 Agriculture-FDA bill designates $2 million for the construction of the Saunders Finger Lakes Museum, a noteworthy cause in the local Yates county community.

The objective of the Saunders Finger Lakes Museum's Capital Project is to create a four-walled space to support the mission of inspiring appreciation and celebrating the cultures and ecology of the vast Finger Lakes Region. Located on 30 acres of land in Branchport, this $2 million funding will assist in the ongoing development of the museum building and experiential exhibits.

Natalie Payne, Executive Director of the Saunders Finger Lakes Museum, shares her excitement about the news. “We feel honored to have been one of Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand’s priority projects and are thrilled that this appropriations bill has been signed into law. This support of the state and federal government allocates the people’s money to a very worthy project in Yates County and we are eager to continue the incredible momentum of the building process of the museum.”
